The Yarl River Jazz Band was formed in March 1997 by local musicians from the Furness and South Lakes area. Rehearsing weekly ever since then, they have built up a repertoire of over 400 familiar and more obscure numbers.

The Yarls are basically a Dixieland band rather than a strictly New Orleans outfit, and most of their role models are in the Eddie Condon - Alex Welsh mode. But they also attempt most styles within the broad Trad spectrum, including original material and sousaphone based Frisco style jazz.
